People heading home Wednesday afternoon may encounter rain and storms as they make their p.m. trip on the freeways and roads of southeastern Wisconsin.

"We're under a slight risk here in Southeastern Wisconsin for the potential for a few of these storms to become severe, with large hail and damaging winds," said Storm Team 4Caster Brian Gotter on Wednesday.

"There's a powerful cold front coming through.  That will kick up some showers and a few isolated later this afternoon and into the early evening hours.  A few of those could become severe."

He said the timeline of these storms will come during the time many people head home from work and school.

"Between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. could be the best time to see some of these thunderstorms pop up," said Gotter.

"We're looking out for that later this afternoon.  It should be out of here sometime around 7:00 p.m.  Then, we just get clear and cool."
