Wis. historical mansion offers cooking workshops
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- History lovers will get a chance to experience 19th-century cooking firsthand at a western Wisconsin mansion this month.
The Villa Louis mansion will offer two hands-on cooking workshops on Sept. 22 and Sept. 29. Participants will prepare a Victorian breakfast using food, utensils and technology from the period. They'll get a tour of the estate following breakfast.
Tickets are $40 per person and $35 for Wisconsin Historical Society members.
The Villa Louis mansion is located in Prairie du Chien. The building is the centerpiece of a Victorian estate built by the family of Hercules Dousman, an entrepreneur who amassed a fortune through the fur trade and other investments.
