Milwaukee man charged in Shorewood bomb threat

SHOREWOOD- A 50-year-old man from Milwaukee has been charged after making threats he would blow up a Shorewood apartment complex earlier this week.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney's office said that Thomas M. Yela claimed to have strapped bombs to the River Park Apartments at 1700 E. River Park Court.
According to the criminal complaint, Yela had "700 pounds of Ammonium Nitrate, five drums of used garbage oil, mercury and shot gun shells that he was going to use to blow up the buildings."
Authorities searched the buildings and didn't find any bombs.
Hundreds of people were forced to evacuate those buildings on Monday afternoon.
Investigators said that Yela was clearly intoxicated at the time of his arrest, and that he also threatened to blow up the Locust Street Bridge and a Shorewood courtroom.
Yela faces a maximum of six years in prison for the Class I felony.
