TOWN OF JACKSON- Encouraging news six weeks after a gas pipeline leak forced people from their homes.
The flush only advisory in parts of the Town of Jackson has been lifted.
Loyd Fulton has had a tough six weeks -- unable to do even the simplest things with the water in his Jackson home.
"Ever try to wash your hands with a jar of water. You've got your soap on one hand, and then you've got your other hand and the bottle falls out because it's full of soap," said Fulton to TODAY'S TMJ4.
There's now a little light at the end of the tunnel. The DNR has now lifted the flush only advisory, meaning Fulton can now use his water for everything but drinking.
A letter went to homes in the that area saying the advisory had been lifted. But it also says the advisory could be reinstated if testing shows the water has gone bad again.
"We're happy to see that. But I'm not happy to see the next two or three years it's going to take to get out of this," said Fulton.
The Department of Natural Resources said the treatment devices installed on the wells are working, but they're being cautious.
"It's only been six weeks and things are changing," said Marty Nessman of the DNR.
For now, Fulton is trying to focus on the positive, and the little things that feel like the first time all over again.
"It was exciting just to be able to do your own laundry. Yeah it sounds strange, but it's true," explained Fulton.
The West Shore Pipeline is the company behind the spill. A spokesman told TODAY'S TMJ4 that no one was available for comment. But we do know the chemical benzene has been found in 24 private water wells.
