7 arrested, $15M worth of marijuana seized in bust
OCONTO- State and federal authorities have arrested seven people and seized about $15 million dollars worth of marijuana that was growing in Oconto County.
The bust announced Wednesday was the third in as many summers in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The suspects were arrested over the weekend.
Ed Wall of the state Division of Criminal Investigation says the investigation began in June after a tip from a fisherman. About 200 federal, state, tribal and local officers have been involved in the case. Investigators are still trying to find out how long marijuana was being grown in the area along the South Branch of the Oconto River.
Wall says about 15,000 plants were seized. He says they were in good condition and some had already been harvested.
