MILWAUKEE- Firefighters battled flames on the roof of a northwest side high school Wednesday.

Fire officials told TODAY'S TMJ4 the small fire at James Madison High School, near N. 81st St. and W. Florist Ave, is now under control.

MPS spokesperson Tony Tagliavia said they evacuated staff following initial reports of the fire.

He said school officials are investigating to see if any damage was caused to the building.  It isn't clear if the building can be reopened Thursday morning.

Tagliavia said no students were inside the building during the fire -- as classes haven't started yet.

No injuries were reported.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Annie Scholz reports that authorities think the fire started on the roof in a hot tar kettle and spread to a propane tank.
