Harley-Davidson starts year-long ramp-up to 110th anniversary
MILWAUKEE - Starting on Thursday, thousands of bikers will return to Milwaukee to kick off a year-long celebration.
Harley-Davidson will soon turn 110 years old, and it is celebrating chrome, power and the Harley culture in style.
"This campus will be humming and buzzing with motorcycles and camaraderie," said Brook Smith of the Harley-Davidson Museum.
The H-D Museum will kick off the year-long celebration on Thursday night.
The party will eventually spread to parts of the world as faraway as Italy.
"This weekend is just a great opportunity for riders and non-riders to come down to the Harley-Davidson Museum and experience the artistic side of motorcycles," explained Smith.
A clock will start Thursday to count down the days, numbers, minutes and seconds to the official 110th anniversary on Labor Day weekend 2013.
The House of Harley is also celebrating this weekend with a rally.
"All the dealerships are going to have a lot of special events, with music and food," explained Don Cozza, the GM of House of Harley.
Thousands of riders were expected to come to Milwaukee and ride in.
Drivers were being urged to be extra careful.
"Just be respectful, follow the rules of the road and be particularly observant," said Cozza.
