TAMPA, Fla. - Wisconsin takes center stage at the Republican National Convention.
"Wisconsin is going to light the path to victory for us," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says.
Never before have Wisconsin Republicans played such a prominent role in national and Presidential politics. Not only with Paul Ryan on the ticket, but with Rience Priebus heading up the Republican National Committee and Governor Scott Walker gaining national attention.
"Yeah, it's a pretty historic moment," Priebus says.
Wisconsin has shared the national spotlight before.
Former Governor Pat Lucey was a VP candidate for the Independent Party in 1980. Former Milwaukee Mayor Frank Zeidler was the Socialist Party's presidential candidate in 1976.
We dug even deeper into the WTMJ-TV archives to find this interview with Mary Ann Maier. The first wife of the Democratic Milwaukee mayor caused quite a stir when she help nominate President Richard Nixon at the Republican convention in Miami 40 years ago.
No big name Wisconsin Democrats in Tampa this time, but every Demcoratic Presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan has carried the state.
"Yeah, I feel the pressure [to win Wisconsin]," Priebus says. "I feel a lot of pressure, but we feel like we can win Wisconsin."
The Wisconsin Republican delegation will be sitting in the front row.
"This is my first convention," Fond du Lac Republican Lillian Nolan says.
Nolan wasn't going let the threat of a hurricane or tropical storm spoil her chances of being here.
"I think this is year to be here," Nolan says. "I think we are making history and I wanted to be a part of it."
