Sensenbrenner recovering from hip surgery
BROOKFIELD - U.S. Representative Jim Sensenbrenner's office says he's recovering from surgery on a broken hip.
A statement from the Wisconsin Republican's office says Sensenbrenner caught his foot on wires, tripped and fell while greeting constituents at a community event in Butler on Saturday. He suffered two fractures -- one near his elbow and another at the hip socket.
It says Sensenbrenner is recovering well and was resting comfortably Sunday at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. But the statement says the congressman and his wife will be unable to attend the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
It says he looks forward to returning to his congressional duties as soon as possible.
Sensenbrenner represents the Fifth Congressional District in eastern Wisconsin.
He was first elected in 1978.
