TOWN OF LYNDON - Authorities have called off the search for a 28-year-old Plymouth man who's been missing since he fell out of a boat into Lake Ellen in eastern Wisconsin.

Sheboygan County authorities said that 28-year-old James Piechocki of Plymouth has been missing since he fell out of a boat about 1 a.m. Sunday.

The sheriff's office said in a statement Monday night that James Piechocki remained missing after a second day of searches, and no further searches are planned.  It says officials will reevaluate that decision if new information comes to light.

Christopher Schumacher is torn up inside.

"Yeah, it hurts," Schumacher says.

The Plymouth man tells TODAY'S TMJ4's Todd Hicks his best friend vanished on Lake Ellen while boating with friends Saturday night.

"He wanted to know if we wanted to go with him, but we had the kids and we went camping," Schumacher says.

Christine Radtke lives on the lake.

"I know there were four people on the boat, the owner of the boat was putzing with a rope or something and slipped off the boat and fell in," Radtke says.

Radtke says the first deputy on the scene pounded on her trailer and asked if he could use her boat to start the search.

"I heard the girl screaming and I just felt so bad for her," Radtke says.

Dozens of searchers have spent hours on the lake and talking with witnesses.

Still, there was no sign of the missing man on Sunday. Police have not released his name.
