MILWAUKEE- Former Milwaukee County Supervisor Johnny Thomas denies taking a bribe.
The defendant and former county supervisor testified in his bribery trial Thursday.
He argued that he took the $500 -- thinking it was a legitimate campaign donation.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Lacey Crisp reports that Johnny Thomas testified he had no knowledge that county administrator Pat Farley gave him the $500 as a bribe to move a contract up for a vote.
Farley wore a wire when talking to Thomas about county contracts, and campaign donations.
"Knowing Pat Farley's background, I felt comfortable that Pat wouldn't mislead me into a compromising situation," testified Thomas.
Thomas said he tried to clarify with Farley that he didn't want to mix the contract with his campaign for comptroller.
"I had no intentions of leveraging the FA contract for my own personal gain or for the gain for my campaign."
But the district attorney's office wasn't buying Thomas' story.
They contend he placed the contract on the agenda the day after Thomas received the $500 payment, and was promised more support.
Lacey Crisp reports that Thomas was relaxed on the stand, at times even joking.
The trial is expected to wrap up Friday.
