Drought leads to shortage of cow chips for annual festival
PRAIRIE DU SAC - This summer's drought has cut down production on more than just corn and other crops. It's also led to a shortage of, of all things, cow chips.
Farmers have found fewer cow pies on the ground this year, and just like corn, hay and things that grow from the ground, it's because of the drought.
The Wisconsin State Journal says that it's because cows don't eat as much in hot weather, so they don't poop as much.
Organizers of the annual Wisconsin Cow Chip Throw and Festival in Prairie du Sac say that they have enough of a stash of cow chips from 2011 to hold their contest this year.
However, farmer Terry Slotty told the paper there could be a shortage of chips to hold over for for next year's event.
