Wild turkey causes delays on Milwaukee freeway system
MILWAUKEE - A wild version of what people tend to eat for Thanksgiving dinner caused major delays on the Milwaukee area freeway system on Wednesday.
A wild turkey spent part of the morning roaming the area around southbound I-43 near Hampton Avenue.
A Milwaukee Sheriff's Deputy squad car had to block parts of the freeway area to protect the turkey from being struck by drivers.
Major backups were found between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. in that area.
There was concern that a ramp in that area would have to be closed, but deputies chose to keep the ramp open.
The turkey escaped the situation without injury.
