Conviction of ex-Appleton teacher upheld by court
APPLETON- A former Appleton teacher who molested a 10-year-old boy in a school restroom in 2008 won't get a new trial.
The Appleton Post-Crescent reports Daniel Callan will serve his entire 17-year prison sentence on charges of child enticement and causing a child to view sexual activity.
The ruling was issued Tuesday by a three-judge panel of the Wisconsin District 3 Court of Appeals in Wausau.
The 29-year-old Callan is a former fifth-grade teacher at St. Bernadette Elementary School. He sought a new trial or a lighter sentence, saying his statements to police shouldn't have been allowed as evidence. The appeals court disagreed.
Callan will spend 18 years on extended supervision after he's out of prison.
