Police: Six-year-old in critical condition after mother stabs her
FITCHBURG - A six-year-old girl in Fitchburg was fighting for her life Monday morning after being stabbed by her own mother, according to Fitchburg, Wis. Police.
Authorities say the mom stabbed the girl, then turned the knife on herself.
She ran to a neighbor's home just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, confessed what she had done, and the neighbor called for help.
"When the officers arrived, they had found a six-year-old girl who had been stabbed multiple times in the chest and back. They also found her mother," Fitchburg Police Lt. Todd Stetzer told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jodi Becker.
The woman admitted to stabbing the girl, and now Stetzer says they're working with the woman to try to figure out why.
The mother is in serious condition and is expected to be OK.
The girl is in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
