Milwaukee Democrats respond to Ryan choice
MILWAUKEE - High-profile Democrats say Paul Ryan's vision for America is substantially flawed.
Mayor Barrett led a team of local Democrats, responding to the Paul Ryan VP candidate selection.
"He's a nice guy, he's a very nice guy," Barrett says. "The problem of course is that this is not about personalities, this is about policies."
The Mayor reminded people Congressman Ryan is the architect of a very controversial budget plan.
"We know that the plan ends Medicare as we know it now for future generations," Barrett says.
"That there are big tax breaks for the wealthy while tax hikes on middle class families increase."
Congresswoman and U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin calls Ryan's fiscal policies flawed.
"The last thing that Wisconsin's middle class needs right now is a budget plan that drives our economy off a cliff, just as we are beginning to move in the right direction and move our economy forward," Baldwin says.
Congresswoman Gwen Moore, who has sat on the Federal Budget Committee with Ryan, says Ryan's plan would especially hurt seniors.
"Guts medicare, increasing cost to seniors by as much as $6,000," Moore says.
She urged voters to carefully consider their choice.
"People, the stakes are higher than ever."
In a statement, President Obama welcomes Paul Ryan to the race, but said the Congressman has a vision that he fundamentally disagrees with.
