JANESVILLE- Several news outlets including NBC News reported late Friday night that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has selected Janesville Representative Paul Ryan as his vice presidential candidate.

Romney will announce the decision Saturday, around 8:15 a.m.,  in Norfolk, Virginia, at the USS Wisconsin.

The Journal Sentinel reports that in recent days, Ryan, the House budget chair has been the subject of increased speculation fueled by a public lobbying campaign on the part of well-known conservative pundits and activists, advocating for Ryan.

Ryan is a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, which covers Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, most of Rock, part of Waukesha and part of Milwaukee Counties.

Ryan, 43, has served in Congress since 1999 and is the author of budget plans that would sharply reduce government spending, and make major changes in tax policy and programs like Medicare.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Charles Benson reports the Ryan campaign said late Friday night that Ryan was still planning to head to Colorado for his vacation Saturday.
