Man dead after crash in Richfield; alcohol possibly involved
RICHFIELD - The Washington County Sheriff's Department says that a 44-year-old man from the Town of Lisbon is dead after a deadly one-vehicle crash where alcohol was believed to be involved.
The crash happened just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon on State Highway 175 south of Pioneer Road in the Village of Richfield.
Authorities say that, based on a preliminary investigation, the man was driving his vehicle up a hill while going southbound on 175.
At that point, he missed a curve, drove off the road and into a utility pole.
Sheriff's officials say both alcohol and speed were potential factors in the crash, along with a slippery highway. The man was not wearing a seat belt.
Crews closed State Highway 175 until about 11:00 p.m. Thursday to clean up the scene and conduct an investigation.
