Slightly less of Wisconsin ruled to be in extreme drought
MILWAUKEE - The U.S. Drought Monitor says that a slightly smaller area of Wisconsin is under extreme drought conditions.
Extreme southern Milwaukee and southern Waukesha and Jefferson Counties remain under extreme drought status, according to the federal organization.
All Racine, Kenosha and Walworth Counties also are under extreme drought status.
Southern Ozaukee and all of Washington Counties have severe drought status.
The Drought Monitor says that 8.95 percent of Wisconsin is under extreme drought status, while 9.12 percent of the state had that status last week.
2012 has been one of the driest periods in recent Wisconsin history.
