Victim resuscitated, rescued after two-alarm fire near downtown
MILWAUKEE - Someone from Milwaukee's near west side is recovering this morning after fire crews revived and rescued them from a two-alarm fire.
The fire started at about 5:00 a.m. near the corner of North 29th Street and West Highland Boulevard.
Acting deputy chief Daniel Berendt tells Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jay Sorgi that the fire happened in a three-floor apartment building.
"They pulled the second alarm. Upon investigating, they located the apartment of the fire, and they removed one person from the apartment," said Berendt.
He explained that crews had to resuscitate the person. The victim was taken to St. Luke's Hospital. There was no initial word on their condition.
Other people in the building had to evacuate due to the fire.
The Red Cross and Milwaukee County Buses came to the scene to assist them.
Berendt said there was no initial damage estimate.
Milwaukee Fire and Police investigators were looking into the cause of the fire.
