Aleman's colleagues are remembering the man they deeply respected.

Friends and co-workers of Deputy Sergio Aleman remember the 18-year veteran as a true professional; a deputy who patrolled the highway, serving Milwaukee County proudly.

Joseph Quiles spent six years working with Aleman.  He told TODAY'S TMJ4 the fallen deputy gained the respect of everyone.

"It was an honor to work beside him," said Quiles.  "It wasn't about catching bad guys...Even though he did we all know he did.  That's not what he's about it was about helping people and he was family man."

The community has placed flowers outside the fallen officer's memorial.  Aleman leaves behind a wife and 5 children.  Bob Ostrowski who spent 10 years on the department with Aleman says his family came first.

"I hope this community keeps his family in their prayers," said Ostrowski.

As the family prepares services, the county will eventually honor Deputy Aleman by etching his name into the Call to Duty Memorial.

"It's a shame his name will be placed on there, I never imagined it would happen.  He was a hard worker and professional," said Ostrowski.

"If I could replace that statue with a statue if Deputy Aleman, I would that's how much of a great deputy and great friend he was," said Quiles.

The Milwaukee Deputy Sheriff's Association has set up a trust for Aleman's Family.

Donations can be made to the "Sergio Aleman Memorial Fund" at any M&I Bank, a part of BMO Financial Group Branch.  All proceeds go directly to Deputy Aleman's family.

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has set up a separate memorial fund for Aleman as well.

Donations can be made at any Tri-City National Bank for "Deputy Sergio Aleman Memorial Fund."
