Hundreds of dead birds found at Germantown farm

GERMANTOWN- Hundreds of birds -- some dead, some alive -- were discovered at a farm in Germantown.
The people who own the property on Highland Road could face animal cruelty charges.
A veterinarian spent Friday checking out more than 150 live birds in sickening conditions. Numerous chickens, geese and ducks were found dead on the property.
A neighbor was sick to his stomach after what he found at that property.
"I found what appeared to be ducks that had died and they were floating in a soup of maggots and filth," described the neighbor to TODAY'S TMJ4.
TODAY'S TMJ4 Thursday showed workers removing hundreds of animals from the property. Officials say the property was littered with carcasses of animals both inside and out.
Witnesses told TODAY'S TMJ4 what they saw inside that barn was like a house of horrors -- vile and nauseating.
Live animals were stuck inside cages with dead ones being eaten by maggots.
"Yes, there is a variety of conditions, some were loose outside, some were caged outside," said Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell.
Germantown police say they have sent samples of some of those dead animals to the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison for examination.
"We do know that they did show some of the animals at fairs. I'm no poultry expert, but there was a wide variety of chickens, ducks geese," said Hoell.
The owners have not been arrested or charged at this point.
TODAY'S TMJ4 tried to talk to the owners and their attorney Friday, but they didn't return any calls.
