'Ball Cap Bandit' indicted by grand jury; arrested by Deputy Aleman
PORT WASHINGTON- The Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy that was killed in a crash along I-43 Tuesday was also responsible for arresting a serial bank robber also known as the "Ball Cap Bandit."
Deputy Sergio Aleman worked for the sheriff's office for 18 years and his contributions on the job were present at a Washington County courthouse on Wednesday where an 36-year-old Michael Scott faced a judge.
Newly released dashcam video shows Scott's getaway vehicle enter a gas station on Milwaukee's south side on July 13 after a bank robbery in Germantown earlier that day. Authorities surrounded Scott and demanded him to show his hands.
Scott emerged from the vehicle, goes on the ground and Deputy Aleman is shown handcuffing the suspect, ending a three month manhunt for the elusive bank robber.
Scott is in custody and facing serious charges.
County prosecutors threw out any charges against the suspect, letting the feds follow through with a 10-count indictment, that was released to the media on Wednesday.
Authorities claim Scott stole more than $28,000 when he hit 10 banks.
Police say he has confessed to the crimes.
Federal prosecutors have placed a hold on Scott. TODAY'S TMJ4 was told he'll soon face federal charges -- something authorities say would not have been made possible without Deputy Aleman's actions.
Scott faces 200 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
