Attempted sexual assault startles South Milwaukee
SOUTH MILWAUKEE - South Milwaukee police are investigating an attempted sexual assault on a teen girl.
She was walking with friends near 15th Ave. and Chestnut Street around 11:40 Friday night. Police say the man grabbed the girl, pulled her away from two friends and then tried to take off her clothes. Then, he ran away.
It's the second incident within a few blocks of each other this month.
"Yea, it's scary. I mean , you just don't think it's going to happen around you. "
Liz Ooettiker and her neighbors are on edge. She lives in the area.
"How can you not feel safe in your own neighborhood, you know?" asked another father who didn't want his name used.
On July 3, a man snuck up behind a woman and assaulted her as she got out of her car in a driveway near 13th Avenue and Rawson. He ran away when she fought back and screamed.
South Milwaukee police say it's possible the two assaults are connected to each other as well as to four other sexual assaults in Bay View stemming back to April.
The teen described the man in South Milwaukee as white, around 20 years old, 5'8 and thin with short brown hair.
The description is similar to the man wanted in the Bay View cases.
And that's enough for neighbors to take notice.
"I'll be more aware of everything that goes on especially now, now that I know this happened so close," said neighbor Ben Anderson.
Anyone with information is asked to call the South Milwaukee Police Department.
