MADISON- One of the leaders of Wisconsin's largest lobbying groups says there should be no more discussions with lawmakers or anyone else about a mining bill until after the November elections.

Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce Vice President Jim Buchen makes the comment in a July 19 letter to Wood Communications Group. That group handles communication work for the Wisconsin Mining Association.

Talks fell through earlier this year on a bill designed to get Gogebic Taconite to open a huge iron mine just south of Lake Superior.

Buchen says in the letter there will be "no substantive action" on any bill this year, and Republicans will have to take control of the Senate by at least two votes in order to pass a bill favored by the mining company.
