Republican state Rep. August blasts Revenue Department
MADISON- Republican state Rep. Tyler August of Lake Geneva is blasting the state Revenue Department for inadvertently making public as many as 110,000 Social Security and tax identification numbers of home sellers.
August says in a statement Wednesday that he is extremely frustrated by the error, especially given that it's the third time since 2006 that taxpayers' private information has mistakenly been made public by the department.
August is vice chairman of the Assembly committee that handles consumer protection and personal privacy.
The information was included in a file placed online for three months by the Revenue Department. It was removed Monday after someone notified the department that the personal information was included in an embedded file.
