Treyton Kilar's Field of Dreams one step closer to being built

Summer time is baseball time and for six-year-old Treyton Kilar, baseball was the love of his life
Kilar's family wants to build a baseball field in his honor after he was killed by a drunk driver.
Since then his parents Mike and Mary and the Whitewater community have raised more than $300,000 to help build Treyton's Field of Dreams.
"What we wanted to give Whitewater's youth was a chance to be on something different, to give them a glimpse of a major league field for little league style," said Mary Kilar.
Starin Park already has three baseball fields, but the Kilars wanted something different, they wanted an artificial turf.
But some city leaders and residents started to question the health and environmental safety of the synthetic infield because it included crushed rubber.
"We can't put rubber tires in our landfills," said Whitewater resident Debra Blackwell. "Why are we putting them on anywhere out there for our children to play on?"
Others, including council members disagreed.
"There's not enough data to demonstrate that there are health concerns," said Whitewater Council member Jim Winship.
In the end, the council unanimously agreed to go forward with Treyton's Field of Dreams.
"I really feel the field that we envisioned building really represents his love and passion for the game of baseball," said Mike Kilar.
The Kilars still have to reach their fundraising goal of $474,000 to get the field built. They would like to break ground this fall.
