Waukesha man charged in deadly hit-and-run crash
WAUKESHA - The Waukesha County District Attorney's office is not pursuing OWI charges at this time after 28-year-old Edgar Montano allegedly struck a mother and daughter during a hit-and-run crash.
The mother of three, Jean Feagles, was killed in the crash while her 16-year-old daughter was injured. They were both rushed to Waukesha Memorial Hospital. The daughter was treated and has since been released.
The two were pushing their car when it ran out of gas near Highway 59 and East Broadway early Saturday morning when they were hit.
Two other people in Edgar Montano's car said he had been drinking heavily, and he fled authorities for around 14 hours after the crash.
A friend of the suspect turned him into authorities in Racine, and Montano allegedly registered a preliminary blood test of 0.00.
Montano has been charged with two felonies: homicide by negligent operation/vehicle, hit-and-run involving death; and a hit-and-run charge -- which is a misdemeanor.
The Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel said the district attorney's office could still file OWI charges against Montano, and said that Montano is a flight risk, so the judge ordered a $250,000 cash bail.
