Farmers struggling in extreme drought despite Wednesday's storms
RACINE- This week's rain is a drop in the bucket compared to what farmers say we need.
Mike Toboyek of Riverwood Produce Farm, says the rain we got Wednesday night will last him through the week, but that's about it. He's already lost about a quarter of what he's planted, and what could've been put on your table.
"There was no rain when I put them in, just hand watering all the time and it wasn't the same. I put in 2000 plants, I probably lost a couple hundred," said Toboyek.
Toboyek sells some of what he has at a Farmer's market at Saint Andrew's in Racine. The church has its own garden filled with everything from berries to broccoli. The church donates some of the food from its garden to the local food pantry, other portions go to the church itself.
"Well, there's less to give," said Mark Trinklein of Saint Andrew's. "We would normally have bushels of tomatoes today and today we had five little containers...It's a loss, it's something called nature and nature won."
