Thompson leads GOP foes in Wis. Senate fundraising
MADISON- Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate Mark Neumann says he raised $733,000 in the second quarter of the year, while challenger Eric Hovde says he raised about $237,000.
Former Gov. Tommy Thompson has raised more than three other Republican challengers in the U.S. Senate race for the three months ending in June.
Thompson's campaign reported Monday that he raised nearly $834,000 between April and June.
A fourth GOP candidate, state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald, reports raising nearly $41,033 for the three months.
Hovde spokesman Sean Lansing says the fact that Hovde has been able to raise what he did as a political newcomer is "remarkable."
Neumann spokesman Chip Englander says the former congressman has saved his money and plans to "dominate the airwaves" leading up to the Aug. 14 primary.
Meanwhile, the Journal Sentinel reports Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin raised $2.2 million in the second quarter, a sum that is more than her four Republican challengers combined.
