MILWAUKEE - Severe levels of heat are returning to the Milwaukee area.

The record high for July 16th in Milwaukee is 100 degrees.  Storm Team 4Caster Scott Steele says that could be in reach.

"We saw triple digits advancing from the central plains to just west of us (on Sunday)," said Storm Team 4Caster Scott Steele.

"I think with strong southwest breezes, dew points rising high enough, we could see some locations in Southeastern Wisconsin reaching 100."

A heat advisory has been issued for all of Southeastern Wisconsin from 12:00 p.m. Monday until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Unlike the long, extreme heat that baked Southeastern Wisconsin, Scott says this will last a much shorter period of time.

"This is a mini-heat wave," said Scott.

"I think we'll have just a couple of days with high temperatures with record readings, near triple digits, but a cold front does sweep through here Tuesday night into Wednesday.  When I say cold front, it's relatively speaking.  It will knock our temperatures down to the middle 80's, and there could be a few scattered showers or storms."

Scott expressed the unusual nature of this long stretch of hot, dry conditions that has brought about a drought in our area.

"This has been an amazing summer," explained Scott.

"100's are relatively rare for Southeastern Wisconsin, especially Milwaukee.  This has been an incredible season for heat and humidity as well around here.  Remember, just a couple years ago, I don't know that we hit that many 90's."

He also described how the lack of rain has actually made things hotter in our area.

"The drought conditions and the very dry soil affects the temperature, and it can add potentially a couple to a few degrees when you get abnormally hot weather.  The lack of moisture to cool things off will make things a little hotter."
