GAB director Kevin Kennedy defends how recall was handled
MADISON- Wisconsin's top election official says in a letter to Republican legislative leaders that continued unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud unnecessarily undermine the confidence of voters.
Government Accountability Board director Kevin Kennedy made the comments in a letter dated Friday in response to one sent earlier in the week by Republican state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald and five other GOP leaders.
They say in the letter to Kennedy that problems in the 21st state Senate district recall election raise "serious questions regarding the integrity of our election process."
Kennedy says in his response that there is "little benefit in promoting unsubstantiated allegations."
The lawmakers wrote a response Friday, saying next year they plan to "correct the problems that have been discovered and restore the integrity of our election process."
