Teen killed in quadruple shooting on Milwaukee's north side
MILWAUKEE - A deaf teenager shot and killed in Milwaukee. Three others injured one of them in critical condition. The shooting happened at N. 34th St. and W. Center St. on Milwaukee's north side around midnight Wednesday.
“He died right there. He died right there on the scene," Princess Carter says emotionally. She wants to know why anyone would take her cousin's life. She says her 17-year-old cousin Dequan Carter was a good person and always happy despite his challenges of being deaf.
"They didn't know him over here. I feel there was some haters going on - stuff that was going on over here, and they just came out shooting,” Carter says.
Princess, who is eight months pregnant, was near her cousin outside when a man fired at them from the side of the house early Wednesday morning.
"He just walked up and opened fire, out of nowhere, we didn't have no gun. We have nothing," Carter says.
The family claims not to know the man who shot at them - but the shooter took off. The teen died at an abandoned home, two houses away from where the shooting happened. Three of Princess's cousins were also injured, one critically.
"Anybody that know anything is best for you to turn yourself in,” she says.
The shooter is still on the loose, if you can help this family with any information, you are asked to call MPD.
Tony Evers, Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin, issued the following statement:
"I wish to extend my deepest sympathy and offer my condolences to the family of Dequan Carter. He was needlessly gunned down in Milwaukee while attending a party for his father. This didn't have to happen, and it is a tragedy that this young man has left us too soon.
"Dequan was a student at our Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan, and he will be missed, not only by his family, but also by his fellow students and the staff at the school. The school administrators are currently preparing resources to help the staff and students who knew him adjust to this sad news, but we must all try to figure out how to stop this senseless violence. A young person was needlessly taken away from us today, and that is a tremendous loss for all of us."
