Senate poll: Hovde leads GOPers, only one leading Baldwin head-to-head

RALEIGH, N.C. - A new poll shows that Eric Hovde has a small lead over his GOP counterparts for the Republican slot in the U.S. Senate race, and he is the only Republican with a lead in a possible head-to-head matchup with Democrat Tammy Baldwin.

The group Public Policy Polling conducting a poll which shows Madison-based financial manager Eric Hovde ahead of all his Republican competitors, with 31 percent of the vote.

His lead over Tommy Thompson, who has 29 percent, is within the poll's margin of error (3 percent).

Former U.S. Congressman Mark Neumann had 15 percent in the poll, while Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald had nine percent.

In potential head-to-head matchups for the November election:
- Hovde leads Baldwin, 45% to 44% (virtual tie based on margin of error)
- Baldwin and Thompson are tied at 45% each
- Baldwin leads Fitzgerald, 46% to 42%
- Baldwin leads Neumann, 45% to 41%
