WAUWATOSA- The heat is hard to avoid for kids and parents who have to be outside for summer sports.

Maggie Schilling and her Wauwatosa softball teammates braved the heat for their big game Friday night.  But their opponents may not have been as bold.

"It's awfully hot," said Schilling.  "They may have decided it was too far of a drive to come here."

The girls had their game canceled Thursday because of the heat.  So Friday, they brought along more than bats and balls for the battle.

"My mom has 3 spray bottles that we brought from home," said Carly Kortbein.

"We were told to bring extra water, we brought wash cloths, anything we could to try to cool the kids down," said Kathleen Schilling.

It was a similar story in Brookfield for one Little League all-star team.

It was so hot, there was a chance their practice would be put on hold.

"They've canceled about three practices..and then today was kind of iffy," said Stan Richardson.

With plenty of ice on hand and extra water breaks, the kids were able to keep cool, and keep their feet on the field.
