Braving through heat wave in Oconomowoc
OCONOMOWOC- One of the hottest areas in southeast Wisconsin in Waukesha County.
For the most part, they're being smart about outside exposure, reports TODAY'S TMJ4's Cody Holyoke. The county's Department of Public Health said there are very few calls coming in about the heat.
In these dog days of summer, the heat is on and anyway to stay cool is welcome.
Deb Uttech and her dog, Rudy, are on the water a bit more lately. This time at Rudy's favorite fishing spot on Fowler Lake.
"He's usually in the air conditioning unless we drive out here and he goes in the water, we stay in the air conditioned house," said Uttech.
That seems to be the plan for most of this sun-shocked city.
Business is down at Buddy's Beach Bungalow on the city beach.
Sure, some kids come craving ice cold treats, but demand has dropped as crowds thin out.
"I love to eat when it's hot, I don't care. For most people, it really affects them, slows them down. They're just like, 'eh, just a water. That's all I want," said Jason Kallie of Buddy's Beach Bungalow.
With the mercury rising, Oconomowoc is doing what it can to brave the heat wave. Residents take a dip in the lake whenever possible and they're thinking cooler thoughts as they tread water and wait for relief.
The city has also implemented water restrictions as a result of the hot temperatures, but crews told TODAY'S TMJ4 many residents aren't heeding the warning.
