Missing elderly couple found safe in Bay View
MILWAUKEE - A missing elderly couple was found safe Friday. Douglas and Berna Levy disappeared 8 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Lake Drive in Fox Point, their family said.
The Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that the couple was found safely around 5 p.m. Friday.
The couple drove around Milwaukee and even drifting as far west onto Bluemound Road into Wauwatosa. They were supposed to have simple drive from Fox Point to their retirement home but they got lost and left family to worry.
"I'm here to say thank-you to Milwaukee," said the couple's son Jed Levy.
Milwaukee police issued an missing person's alert after his parents Douglas and Berna Levy never made home last night.
"We just moved them into the St. John's facility in May," said Jed Levy.
The 78 and 82-year-olds moved from New Jersey. Thursday night they were coming from their son's house in Fox Point. The Levy's had a short trip to take south on Lake Drive to the retirement community, but they never made it. The family feared for their safety especially with the extreme heat.
Jed Levy stayed positive hoping they would turn up---and they did 17 hours later.
"A good Samaritan just recognized them from TV and asked 'are you Doug and Berna.' They said yeah and said people are looking for you," described Jed.
The couple was spotted eating at a Bay View restaurant. They spent the night driving around asking for directions.
The Levy's were exhausted, but they're safe now.
