An Excessive Heat Warning for Dodge, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Sheboygan And Washington Counties Through 7 a.m. Saturday; Excessive Heat Warning for Jefferson, Kenosha, Racine, Walworth And Waukesha Counties through 2 p.m Saturday

MILWAUKEE - "There's light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to this heat wave, but that light is still a bit in the distance."

That's how Storm Team 4Caster Scott Steele describes the slow path to cooler temperatures the Milwaukee area will embark upon over the next few days.

An excessive heat warning for all of Southeastern Wisconsin will finally end Saturday, but not until after one final day of temperatures at or near 100 degrees.

"After 2 remarkable days with record highs into triple digits, today's readings will remain very hot, but a slightly more active lake breeze should limit afternoon readings in our lakeshore counties to the upper 90s, while inland locations will once again top 100 degrees," said Scott.

Scott warns us, however, that the National Weather Service could extend the excessive heat warning into Saturday, before the eventual cooldown comes.

"The timing of a cool front's passage is key for how hot we get on Saturday.  It's possible readings could rise quickly into the low 90s across parts of the area before relief arrives later in the day."

Scott says that finally, the extreme heat should be gone by the end of the weekend.

"Sunday looks much more seasonal."

According to Scott, the only real rain expected this weekend should come with isolated storms on Friday and Saturday.
