CUDAHY - Two veterans were hurt after a car in the Cudahy Fourth of July parade lost control and struck a marcher Wednesday.

The parade was coming to an end on Armour and Lake Drive when an 87-year-old man driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser in the parade sped up, lost control, and ran over someone marching in the route, witnesses said.

"The car hit him in the back of the legs and kept going," witness Kathy Koshgarian said.  "It through him up above about 14 feet he came back down on the car."

"He hit his head on the windshield and rolled off the side of the car."

The driver then continued down the road, crashing through barricades, before Cudahy police were finally able to stop the car a few blocks away.

"I was scared because the car came so close as we were sitting in our chairs my wife freaked out," said Luis Castillo.  "I grabbed her and we ran towards the house."

Investigators believe the driver may suffered some type of heat or medical condition. Witnesses said the man he hit was conscious but had severe head injuries and complained of a tingling sensation in his legs.

The driver was treated for a heat stroke.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
