Lulu's Cancer Battle
MILWAUKEE - Fighting cancer with a smile on her face, this five-year-old is also helping others.
Five-year-old Luchea Sammarco hopes her lemonade stand will bring some sunshine back into another child's life. An enormously generous gesture, considering that little "Lulu," as she's called, is battling leukemia herself.
Her mother, Teresa Sammarco, says, "She has met a lot of other kids on the cancer ward and she decided she wanted to raise some money for charity so she had the idea of making a lemonade stand, and that's what we have here today. And all the proceeds go to cancer research and children with cancer."
The rainbow colored stand on Cass Street in Milwaukee has been quite successful.
"Its been amazing," Teresa Sammarco said. "You can kind of see that we have a big crowd already and its been steady all morning."
During the early stages of her cancer battle, Lulu suffered a burst appendix. But the good news is Lulu is now in remission, though she still faces about 20 more months of therapy. One hundred percent of the proceeds from will go to cancer treatment.
"Just please give to childhood cancer research," Sammarco said. "It really makes a difference, even a little makes a big difference."
