State Rep: Walker should 're-evaluate' not implementing health care exchange
MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin's governor has made public his determination to not implement the federal health care overhaul after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law's individual mandate.
Milwaukee Democratic State Representative Jon Richards doesn't think Governor Scott Walker should wait any longer to start setting up a state health care exchange.
That's where people would go to buy health insurance under the federal healthcare law.
"What's frustrating is that Governor Walker is refusing to set up the way that we can help people make choices. We're calling on the Governor to re-evaluate the way he's looking at setting up an exchange in Wisconsin and to move forward," said Richards on Newsradio 620 WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News."
"The law says that if (we) do not have an exchange set up for Wisconsin by January 1st of next year, that the federal government will come in and create one for us."
That would give the Governor less than two months to set the exchange up after the November election.
Walker said Thursday that he is hoping a new President and GOP-controlled Congress will overturn the law in 2013.
