Rescinded tax break offer to be raised at meeting
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation board is scheduled to meet for the first time since the head of the semi-private agency rescinded an offer of tax breaks to a Stevens Point company contingent on it winning a state contract.
Assembly Democratic Leader Peter Barca is a member of the board and he says he plans to raise the issue at the Thursday meeting.
The head of the agency Paul Jadin sent a letter to information systems company Skyward on March 22 offering a variety of tax breaks to Skyward if it won a $15 million state project.
Jadin rescinded the offer on June 18 after Gov. Scott Walker's legal office raised concerns.
Offering Skyward incentives while others are bidding on the same project gives Skyward an advantage others don't have.
