Officials extend pool hours, give tips to stay cool in extreme heat
MILWAUKEE - The extreme heat in Southeastern Wisconsin is expected to get worse Thursday, with a heat advisory in effect due to expected heat indices above 100 degrees.
There are already two deaths in Milwaukee that might be heat-related.
Officials are trying to help people beat the heat by extending the hours of municipal pools and educating people on methods of staying cool.
"I ask my mom to take me to this park so i can get wet," said Takyla Fortune, who understands there's nothing like fun in the water during the summer.
"It's hot," she emphasized.
This heat can be unbearable for many people.
"You can be quickly overwhelmed, and unless there's a medical professional very close by, a negative outcome could occur," said Milwaukee Health Commissioner Bevan Baker.
Health officials want everyone to take advantage of things like cooling centers, pools and water parks to beat the heat.
Katinka Hoover is beating the heat in a different way, by having air conditioning installed.
"(It's) because of my dog. My mom was concerned about my dog's well being."
Officials suggest that if you work outside, don't push yourself, stay hydrated and stay safe.
