Emerald ash borer found at Bong Recreation Area and in Janesville
KENOSHA - Officials with the State of Wisconsin say that Emerald Ash Borers have been found at the Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Kenosha County and in Janesville.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, officials confirmed Friday that someone discovered the ash tree-killing insect at the popular recreation area in Brighton, Wis.
They also confirmed that someone collected the beetle in the City of Janesville on Thursday.
The emerald ash borer has now been found in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth and Washington Counties, along with five other Wisconsin counties.
The state says that Kenosha County has already been quarantined for the Emerald Ash Borer, and Rock County will soon be quarantined.
That means that people should not remove or transport firewood from the county they are in if that county is listed as quarantined.
Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Washington and Waukesha Counties are all under the quarantine list, with Walworth County's status pending.
