WAUWATOSA - Authorities shut down both directions of Highway 100 and the U.S. 45 ramp to Mayfair Road after a service line was yanked out of a gas main.

The incident happened just before 10:00 a.m. Monday morning.  The Highway 100 lanes re-opened at about 11:25 a.m.

We Energies told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jon Byman that the incident led gas to vent into the air.  The gas was subsequently shut off to the area.

Wauwatosa Police said that construction crews were working on Highway 100 on the 2000 block of North Mayfair Road when the service line was yanked.

Police say that they had to evacuate two nearby offices.

Both the north and south lanes were closed from Watertown Plank Road to North Avenue.
