MILWAUKEE- Barbara Green never thought her dream of owning her own home would come true, especially after a devastating fire.  Well on Friday her dreams did come true.

"I actually thought  I was dreaming," Green says about her nightmare which began on her birthday in April, after a fan in her bedroom started a fire while she was asleep.   "Once me and my daughters got out - the fire started coming through the windows and the home was destroyed," she says.

Green also thought the fire destroyed her dream of owning that home.  She leased it through a special financial program to help get her life together.

A woman helped Green along the way to reach her dream of owning that home."She was helping me repair my credit. Basically, walking me through the steps," Green says.

But, after the devastating fire, Green was fearful."I was like, 'Oh, no! I was supposed to close on this house on the 30th. You know I've lost it," she says. But, the woman gave her hope. "She told me don't worry about it."

Green says her house is now repaired, with new floors, windows and counter tops. Green cleaned up her credit and paid her bills on time.

She closed on her home Friday morning.  "We have a home, and it's mine, and it makes a difference," she says.

There's karma through Green's story, she mentors young girls, changing their lives.  She says life has given her back what she's given to others.

"For a long time - I've always done stuff for people. So to have someone do something for you - feels all right," she says emotionally.
