RACINE - Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling was one of the thousands of people who had to be evacuated after a hotel explosion in Nashville earlier this week.

The Racine Journal Times reports he was staying at the Opryland Resort and Convention Center for a national sheriff's conference.

A gas explosion in a mechanical room far away from guest rooms caused close to a million dollars in damage.  No one was injured.
