MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Heat Wave that is ending spring of 2012 is expected to last one final summer-like day - today.

Wednesday in Milwaukee brings one last anticipated day of high temperatures in the mid-90's.

"It looks like we're going to see a repeat performance of yesterday, with strong southwest winds, high humidity levels - up into the middle 60's for dew points will make things uncomfortable for folks - and our high temperatures will get into the middle 90's," said Storm Team 4Caster Scott Steele.

"It's a little unusual for us to have this many (days in the) 90's in a row at all during the summer, lately, but certainly this early in the summer.  In fact, summer doesn't begin until this evening."

That hasn't stopped Milwaukee from enduring temperatures as hot as it tends to get during the middle of summer, far beyond the norm for our area.

"The average high temperature this time of year is about 77 degrees," said Scott.

Added to the heat is the mugginess people will feel, though it's not as muggy as it tends to get in July and August when the mercury reaches these levels.

"Our dew points will be up into the middle 60's, which will feel uncomfortable for better than half of us.  It's not as bad as it gets mid-to-late summer when you get dew points in the 70's and all of us feel uncomfortable, but it certainly will feel like summer," explained Scott.

What about a lake effect that tends to cool things down near Lake Michigan?  \

That won't happen unless you stand in the lake, because - as Scott puts it - southwest winds only carry warmth, not the cool carryover of a colder lake.

"Even along the lake, you don't get the cooling effect.  When you get a wind off the lake with an easterly component, sometimes you'll get some relief because lake temperatures are cooler, but with a southwest breeze, none of that takes effect, so all of us feel that heat and humidity."
