WAUWATOSA- A brand new place to cool off in Wauwatosa isn't working the way it's supposed to.

The splash pad in Hart Park opened June 8 but it hasn't been working properly since then.

10-year old Alex Mazurek isn't happy about it.  "I come down here and they are not working is kind of annoying," said Mazurek.

But a few minutes after Alex left the park, the splash pad started working, but only four of the seven water jets were on.

It is part of a $920,000 addition to Hart Park that included a new play ground.

The city says the first two control panels didn't work; a third one is on its way.

"The contractor is doing his best.  We all wish it was on given the weather, but we are working to get it on in the right fashion as soon as possible." said Bill Porter, Public Works Director in Wauwatosa.

The only option the city has right now with the splash pad is to keep it on all the time or off.  It uses about 20,000 gallons of water in six hours if it runs non-stop.

So it will stay off for now until the new part arrives and is installed next week.

"I think it makes sense to keep it off for now," said Hannah Malaczynski.  "We don't want to waste water, but yeah we were a little bummed out."

The city says fixing the problem will not cost taxpayers.
