Polish Fest features imported beer, pierogi and $.50 Friday
MILWAUKEE - The first of the major Milwaukee-area ethnic festivals on the 2012 calendar comes to the Summerfest Grounds this weekend.
Polish Fest features lots of ethnic dancing, authentic Polish beer, polka and other types of music, and of course, the cuisine.
"We do have pierogi," said Jane Riley Best, who is in charge of the 2012 festival, on Newsradio 620 WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News."
"We have two of the authentic Polish restaurants, Polonez and Crocus. You're going to get lots of authentic Polish food. Polonez has the Polish sausage with kraut, mushroom soup.
"Lots of potato pancakes, golabki, it's a cabbage roll. We have hunter's stew, lots of things like that...I'm just going to try a lot of things."
Another feature unique to Polish Fest which other ethnic festivals at the Summerfest Grounds can't claim: authentic beer from the land of ancestry.
"Tychy Beer is from that city in Poland," explained Riley Best.
"Thanks to MillerCoors, they help us import it. It's something that you can't get easily. We order 70 to 80 cases. We're the only ethnic festival that imports the beer for the festival."
Tickets are $12, free for kids 15 and under with adult
However, they have a special admission cost of $.50 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday.
